McDonald Observatory

Fort Davis, Texas is an interesting spot to visit. Nestled in the mountains, this town hosts the historic Fort Davis where the cavalry enacts scenes from the early 1800's. Drive north to the McDonald Observatory which is part of the University of Texas, Austin. Spend several hours touring the huge telescopes where you can view live views of the sunspots. Quite an interesting place...and cool temperatures from the location at the highest peaks of Texas.
