Back to reality. After the week-long cruise. I will miss having someone to freshen the room in the morning, while we are out choosing breakfast from a buffet loaded with fruit, egg dishes, muffins and more. The weather all week was lovely, with calm seas while in the ocean and only one cold, windy and overcast day. My favorite port was Sitka, Alasa where we took a touring boat to view the wildlife that live around the island inlets. The humpback whales were especially active, while the sea otters were floating lazily on their backs as in formation. We enjoyed watching a large brown bear walk along the shoreline and many bald eagles sitting in the trees.
Our Alaskan port cities depend on tourism as a major industry, so the shops were open for business when the ship arrived at the dock. The ship had a library area with books and movies to check-out, along with a gourmet coffee shop. Dick enjoyed spending time with the computer tech workshops.
