We have been out of touch with civilization for over a week!!
The mountains and giant Sequoia trees kept us company, along with the wild life. Yesterday, when hiking on a boardwalk around a meadow, admiring the Sequoia trees along the edge, we were surprised to see a black bear. She was in the meadow, about 12 feet from the boardwalk, and looking at us. My first thought was that she was a statue, then she turned her head. We saw her cubs: a small brown bear who scrambled about 10 feet up a tree, a larger black cub that peered at us over a log. What a treat to see these beautiful animals in the wild. We also watched a deer with 5-point horns walking along the edge of the campground. (Now I know where Santa's reindeer stay in the summer).
Now, it's on to the Pacific Coast.
Stay cool!
