Campsite at Tallulah Falls State Park |
Stairs to Swinging Bridge over Tallulah Falls Gorge |
The northeast corner of Georgia is where you will find spectacular waterfalls, nestled in the Appalachian Mountains where the mountain laurel are blooming. We arrived at the Tallulah Falls State Park just before the rainstorm drenched the area. Campsites were large, level and included 50 amp power! From the Interpretive Center (where we viewed a documentary of the park) we hiked to several overlooks of a 500 foot deep gorge and waterfalls. Our trek included a swinging bridge that was at the bottom of a long staircase - 350 steps down and 350 back up on the other side. Karl Wallenda walked across the same gorge on a tightrope in 1970.
Our second stop was to view the Anna Ruby Falls, breathtaking beauty. Traveling through the mountain roads to camp at the Amicalola Falls State Park - advertised as the tallest falls east of the Mississippi River - we plan to see the sights tomorrow.
