Jazz - Port Townsend Style

Jazz Camp in Port Townsend, Washington has ended...leaving us with pleasant memories. Dick attended arranging classes twice/day where he studied jazz compositions of Bill Holman. Trombone master classes with Jiggs Wigham gave him the opportunity to play with twenty-one trombone musicians, some who traveled from Germany. (Note: Dick on left wearing brown sweater).

The star faculty for this camp included professional jazz artists with instrumental and vocal fame. The last evenings of the week-long camp brought faculty concerts with a variety of musical groups and solists on saxophone, piano, vibraphone and voice. One highlight of the evening was a premiere performance of a work composed by Bill Holman for Jazz Port Townsend. Playing the composition was a faculty/all star, big band with a special guest star: Piquito de Rivera.
