We have been roughing it (without internet access) for more than a week, so this blog needs to cover lots of miles.
Our Winnebago Rally in Oregon was a success, with more than 150 people and their dogs...70+ View owners with stories to share. Met some interesting people: an Oregon couple who are full-timers and have never plugged into "shore power", but use only solar energy. Andy and his wife from White Plains, New York who sold their home on the same day they took ownership of their View motorhome. They headed south -- without any definite travel plans -- and have been on the road for two years. We were entertained by an Indian violinist and story teller, heard about Geo-Caching (popular nation-wide treasure hunt using a GPS), and savored bonfires with folks from all over the country.
Our next stop was in Mt. St. Helens...then on to Mount Rainier. Such a beautiful place with the sun shining on the glaciers. It took arm-twisting to get Dick to leave! We "dry camped" at Rainier (no electric or water). Mt. Rainier was one of Grandma Stallbaum's favorite spots, and I can see why she loved it.
Last night, we parked overlooking the Strait of Juan Du Fuca and watched the cruise ships and large tankers come from the Pacific toward either Seattle or Vancouver. Another special place.
We drove south today, through the Olympic Peninsula, but plan to return to that campsite tomorrow night, and catch the ferry to Victoria on Sunday afternoon.
Happy travels!
